Cool Dog Jam

This month we’re paying homage and, sadly, saying ‘so long’ to our fellow Dev Nighter, Aaron Chapin. Aaron has been part of the Philly game dev community longer and in more ways than anyone. From his days at Drexel to the heyday of the Philly IGDA to the current thrive of Dev Night; from starting Space Whale Studios to working for Burst Online, Cipher Prime and Final Form; Aaron has been a student, a hobbyist, an independent, an employee and a teacher. He’s worked on an impressive number of Philly’s stand-out games and has made some of our most interesting jam games.

But Aaron is more than just a pretty resume. He’s also a truly unique individual. He’s just as at home in a mowhawk, an epic beard, a pair of shiny pants, or with a pirate bird on his shoulder. He types on the world’s loudest unmarked keyboard and willingly dons arm pads and lets Dain kick the crap out of him. He was a child model in Korea. Yeah.

He recently made a game called Cool Dog Don’t Care about a dog that doesn’t care. This dog doesn’t care so hard that it will drive off a cliff if the player doesn’t intervene. And to demo his game at Franklin Institute’s 8-Bit Night, he manned his table in character, as Cool Dog, sitting expressionlessly, not reacting to anyone who approched his table.

If you know him at all, you know that, when he’s not making terrible puns, Aaron is an awesome guy, and we’re all going to miss him. So, this month, we’re dedicating our jam games to our very own Cool Dog.

Rules
Each game has to meet at least one of the following criteria.

Let’s make him proud.
